Nwana, an average-aged man from Eziezekwe village, Abagana, in the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, has set his wife ablaze after a heated argument bothering on alleged infidelity.
The suspect reportedly accused his wife, Chioma Nwana, of having extra-marital affairs which sparked a heated altercation among the couple, resulting to the man pouring petrol on the woman and setting her ablaze.
She reportedly sustained severe injuries from the born and was rushed to the hospital, However, she gave up the ghost on Wednesday morning.
Reports from some of the eyewitnesses who are majorly members of the community revealed that Nwana confronted his wife when she returned late from an alleged outing with another man.
A resident of the area, who pleaded anonymity, narrated that, “The woman returned home on Tuesday evening, and her husband accused her of infidelity. During the confrontation, he poured petrol on her and set her ablaze. She was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately passed away this morning.”
The source further revealed that the couple have six children and have lived together in the Village since they got married.
Following the incident, the suspect have confessed to the crime and reportedly presented himself at the Abagana Divisional Police Station.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect is currently in custody.
Ikenga stated, “The suspect is in police custody. Unfortunately, the victim died this morning. The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, has ordered the transfer of the case to the Homicide Unit for a thorough investigation.”
